Hate Crimes Bill Traditional Values Coalition Article

PRESIDENTIAL QUOTE

"No man can study the movement of modern civilization from an impartial standpoint and not realize that Christianity and the spread of Christianity are the basis of hope of modern civilization in the growth of popular self-government. The spirit of Christianity is pure democracy. It is equality of man before God—the equality of man before the law, which is, as I understand it, the most God-like manifestation that man has been able to make."
William Howard Taft, in an address to a missionary gathering in 1908

Our nation was founded on Christian Principles and runs on Christian Principles. If and when our country no longer stands on the Christian Principles which have made us great, we will cease to be a great nation and may ultimately loose our sovereignty. The Hate Crimes Bill before the Senate in Washington D. C. seeks to silence the voice of the Christian Church in regard to perverted sexual practices. These very practices, which when they are embraced by a nation or society, have caused the demise of that nation or society within one generation's time. We can not allow that to happen here in America.

You may already have contacted you Senators and Representative regarding the Hate Crimes Bill. When you called or wrote, the Legislative Aid probably said that the Hate Crimes Bill says nothing about stopping free speech. You may have been told verbally or in a letter that the Hate Crimes Bill says nothing about religious freedom or free speech or thoughts and thought crimes. They may even be so confused that they may have said they are voting for equal justice for everyone (they're seeking to insure homosexuals get equal justice, something they already have. What they really are doing is insuring homosexuals extra or super powered justice compared to the rest of us).

The following is an article from our Traditional Values Coalition News Site that I thought you would be interested in. It talks about the repercussions for Christians should Hate Crimes Legislation be passed and the cover up and misinformation being fed to the press and our Senators and Representatives. You can go to our Home Page and scroll down on the Traditional Values News Site and read the article there or you can read it here:

"Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN) Misleads Voters On So-called ‘Hate Crime” Vote
August 2, 2007 –

The Traditional Values Coalition challenges the statements of Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) that he is using to justify his vote for a pro-homosexual/transgender bill in the House in May 2007.

Rep. Cohen has claimed in the Commercial Appeal (Aug. 2, 2007) that the so-called hate crimes bill, H.R. 1592, Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, will not threaten religious freedom or speech. He claims pastors who have contacted him about his vote are wrong to worry about it. His statement is patently false,” said TVC Chairman Rev. Louis P. Sheldon.

Rep. Cohen’s claim that the so-called hate crimes bill will not impact a pastor’s sermon against homosexuality isn’t supported by the language of the bill itself. His claim is based on an alleged religious freedom amendment offered by Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL).

Mr. Davis claimed that his amendment was designed to protect religious freedom, it accomplishes nothing. Under the current language, freedom of speech and religion are protected – BUT ONLY if the speech isn’t “relevant” to the crime committed.

Futhermore, Representative Davis admitted during the markup that the legislation will not protect a pastor from prosecution under this bill. During the debate, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), a former judge, forced Representative Artur Davis to admit that if a minister preaches that sexual relations outside of marriage of a man and woman is wrong, and somebody within that congregation causes bodily injury to a person, that the sermon or teachings could be used in evidence against the minister. (From the transcript of the hearing, 4-25-07, page 205)

As Rev. Sheldon has state previously, “H.R. 1592 will set the legal framework in place for the eventual investigation, persecution and prosecution of pastors or others who criticize homosexual or cross-dressing behaviors. Once homosexuality and transgenderism are considered specially-protected classes in federal law, radical activists will begin to target ‘hate speech’ as an incitement to violence against homosexuals/transgenders.”

Liberals voted to put a meaningless phrase into H.R. 1592 that supposedly protects religious freedom, but the phrase is window-dressing to get votes. Liberal judges will ignore any such phrase in the legal cases sure to follow. The Senate version of H.R. 1592 is S. 1105 being pushed by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and his homosexual allies.

TVC exposed the phony “findings” used by liberals to justify passage of this bill. They quietly removed the findings before final passage in the U.S. House of Representatives.
TVC urges all Memphis citizens to read and distribute our report, “H.R. 1592 – Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act Of 2007,” to understand the dangers that this legislation poses to religious freedom and free speech."

Hate Crimes legislation is a direct assault on our Religious Freedom and our Freedom of Speech.

Please PRAY that it never is passed into Federal law. Please TAKE ACTION and call your Senators and let them know how you want them to vote. If you have already contacted them, call them again to remind them of your position. Use the information above to enlighten them as to the consequences to Christian Freedom of Speech if this bill is passed.

Many Blessings~~~
