Our new congress has been busy, very busy. They introduce bill after bill to silence grassroots political involvement because: a) They don't have time to read all the emails, letters and telephone messages from their voter base. b) They don't have time to answer all the emails, letters and telephone messages from you and other concerned citizens. c) They have to hire extra staff to handle all the troublesome feedback from their constituents. d) They don't care what the folks back home who voted for them want them to do. e) They don't remember what wild campaign promises they made and are hoping you don't remember either. f) They didn't really mean it when they made the campaign promises that they remember making. g) They think the big business lobbyists know best. h) They believe all the lies the big business lobbyists pass off as truth and want to rely on them for their view of reality. i) They think their constituents are a bunch of uneducated hicks. j) All of the above. k) Most of the above. l) Some of the above.

Our government is supposed to be of the people, by the people, and for the people. The continual stream of efforts to stifle grassroots activism is unamerican and unconstitutional. The latest assault is coming from the House of Representatives in the form of H.R. 2093, a bill introduced by Reps. Marty Meehan (D-Mass) and Chris Shays (R-Conn). The bill is scheduled to be voted on by May 22. Focus on the Family Action reports:

• The Meehan-Shays amendment would regulate paid efforts to encourage citizens to contact their elected representatives.
• By redefining what a "lobbying firm" is, the Meehan-Shays amendment would create a congressional database of individuals and organizations that keep the American people informed about important issues being considered in Washington.
• The new red tape would impact groups like NYFPC, Focus on the Family Action, and most of the organizations on our Links Page, but would exempt labor unions, corporations, and other membership organizations -- as well as activist billionaires like George Soros. [OUTRAGEOUS]
• Groups affected by this bill would be required to submit quarterly reports to Congress, disclosing how much money was spent to update Americans about what their elected officials were doing.
• This brand of "lobbying reform" would not prevent events like the Abramoff lobbying scandal -- but it would infringe on the rights of concerned citizens to make their voices heard in the halls of power.
• This amendment would stifle every aspect of the First Amendment by infringing on rights to freedom of speech, press, association/assembly, petitioning and religion.
• The Meehan-Shays amendment would impose penalties for failure to comply. While the exact details are unknown at this time, we can expect them to be up to $200,000 in fines and up to 10 years in prison. [ Information from Focus on the Family Action]

Call (202) 225.5076 and ask to speak to your Representative. If you don't know who he/she is tell the operator your zip code and she will tell you who your Representative is and connect you to his/her office.

• Ask to speak to the Legislative Assistant
• Urge him/her you "oppose the Meehan-Shay (H.R. 2093) Amendment to the lobbying reform bill".
• Tell them you "oppose the idea of Congress regulating the efforts of grassroots groups and Christian organizations that provide you with information about what is going on in Congress".
• Say that you would like to receive a written response explaining the representative's position. The staff person should take down your mailing address.

We can and must act. Passivity is no longer an option.

Jerry Falwell

Jerry Falwell, a standard bearer in the culture wars, has passed on to his eternal reward. We will miss him and his uncompromising stand for Jesus, righteousness and justice. A champion of Christian activism, he was the keynote speaker at Rev. Duane Motley's Legislative Day in Albany, NY in March, 2007. We pause to read the following quote from one of his speeches and to thank God for Rev. Falwell's life and legacy.

The Importance of Family

The NYFPC believes the family is the building block of our society. While in prayer, one of our Board members was impressed with the following statement: "There is no future without the family." The Board was so impressed with the statement that we decided to put it on the bumper sticker we are designing to advertise our website. Family is where it all happens and without it society ceases to exist.

On the Presidential Prayer Team website I found the following quote from a commencement address Barbara Bush gave to Wellesley College Graduates in 1990. I want to pass it along because it harmonizes so well with the NYFPC's view of the importance of the family:

"At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child or a parent. Fathers and mothers, if you have children, they must come first. You must read to your children, you must hug your children, you must love your children. Your success as a family . . . our success as a society . . . depends not on what happens in the White House, but on what happens inside your house."

Kudos to Barbara. She really has a grasp of what really matters. However, what happens in the White House is important to us at NYFPC, too.

Freedom of Choice Act

The pro-abortion people are trying to nullify the pro-life Supreme Court victory when they upheld the Ban on Partial Birth Abortion. (Partial birth abortion is the most hideous, godless "medical" procedure known to man. Go to http://www.nysrighttolife.org/, scroll down to the bottom of the page, watch the animated partial birth abortion and weep.) Pro-abortionists want to erase the ban on partial birth abortion with a ban of federal regulation of abortion thereby legalizing partial birth abortion by default. These people (Satan's Minions) are sponsoring the "Freedom of Choice Act", (H.R. 1964) and (S. 1173). Call your Representative and your Senators and tell them to vote against these bills. To contact your Senators and your Representative: go to our Home Page (click on our name to the right of the blog), click on Contact Our Government. You will find the telephone numbers to call to contact your Senators and your Representative. Ask to speak to the Legislative Assistant. Ask for your Senators and your Representative to write you and let you know how they plan to vote.

Now is the time to act. Before you call remember to pray. Cover your call with the Blood of Jesus. Ask God to give you and your ideas favor.

Political Activism Takes Time

Hi, Everyone

Those of you who visit our website and visit my blog must realize something by now. Political Activism takes time. If we tithe our time, we should spend at least 4 hours a week doing things for the Lord. That's based on a 40 hour work week. Four hours a week would be long enough to read and respond to the issues about 4 to 5 times a week. Some of you could probably get more mileage out of the four hours but when you start looking into the matter at hand on more than one website time can slip away. The question is: IS IT WORTH THE EFFORT IT TAKES TO FOLLOW THE LORD'S COMMAND TO "OCCUPY TILL I RETURN"? I hope your answer is YES!!!!

You may have noticed that the issues change rapidly and if you don't respond immediately to an issue, next week or even in a couple of days: the issue may already have been voted on and now you need to contact your elected official and tell them how you feel about how they voted since you didn't tell them how you wanted them to vote in the first place or the feed to the issue is now dead or the issue is no longer on the top of the the hosts Home Page but buried at the bottom of a long list and is very hard to find or has vanished altogether or another burning issue seems much more important and you don't have time to deal with the original issue. Don't ask me how I know these things, I just do. The point I'm trying to make is: we need to be diligent and respond immediately to the issues as we become aware of them.

The reason I bring all this up is we are living in a time of extreme pressure from the minions of darkness. The culture war we are engaged in is the most critical and important war we have been in since our fight for independence from England. Today we are fighting to be independent from Satan and his laws and his ways. Presently, our Christian faith and Biblical values are being attacked daily and we have lost a lot of ground. Increasingly we have been pushed to the margins of society. Organizations like the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and Gay Activists have successfully pushed their agendas forward while we have silently sat by. Incredibly, some Christians don't even realize the homosexual life style and agenda pose any real threat to our society. They couldn't be more mistaken. In Massachusetts where 'gay marriage' has been legalized, parents have been jailed for not wanting their children to read the books being used in the schools that promote the gay life style. Once it's legal, textbooks and library books that promote and normalize the homosexual life style will be and are being used and assigned for reading in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. It is estimated that about 2% of the population is gay. Some have said 1 in 10. I don't know which statistic is true. What I do know is the homosexual community is extremely active in promoting homosexuality and indoctrinating children to accept and to try it out. They don't want acceptance, they want to swallow our way of life and replace it with theirs. We have to wake up and stand against this before its too late. When you see the men of Sodom surrounding Lot's house and demanding to have sex with the angels inside the house, you get a picture of what our fate will like be if we legalize 'homosexual marriage' - only it won't be angels they will be after, it will be our children and our grandchildren and our husbands. One gay man once told me he had had sex with lots of married men.

The shocking erosion of America's moral and spiritual foundations is evidenced by the following statistics. Since 1962 when our moral decline began with the Supreme Court outlawing prayer from the public schools:
* The violent crime rate has increased 550%
* Birth to unwed mothers are up 500%
* The teenage suicide rate has tripled.
* The divorce rate is up 350%
Subsequently, Bibles and the Ten Commandments have also been banned, crosses and nativity scenes have been banned. Anti-Christian bigotry abounds and our Christian voice and presence have all but been silenced and expunged from our culture.

We must redouble our efforts so we can win the culture war and restore our nation to its Christian Heritage and Biblical Foundations. The First Amendment gives us the right to freely express our faith. We must be willing to pray and to act to save the country we love and the God honoring way of life we once had. May God help us.

Make time to pray for the ACLU and PP to be defunded. Pray before you call your elected officials and pray for New York and for America. Spend your four hours wisely.

There are two days left to sign the http://www.aclj.org/ petition against the "Freedom of Choice" Act. The day after the Supreme Court upheld the ban on partial-birth abortion, the "Freedom of Choice" Act was introduced to counteract the Supreme Court decision. The Bills are H.R. 1964 and S 1173. They want to replace the ban on partial-birth abortion with a ban of federal regulation of abortion. An absolute outrage. Go online and sign the petition. Pray as never before that the "Freedom of Choice" Act will never get out of committee and never get passed. Call your Representative and Senators Schumer and Clinton and tell them what you think. The President has promised to veto the Bills. Sixty six votes are needed for an override; they have only 62. Pray that doesn't change. Call President Bush and thank him for his decision to veto the bill. Good work.

Hate Crimes

Well, the House of Representatives did itself proud and voted to pass Hate Crimes bill, HR 1529, which in essence makes it illegal for any discrimination real or imagined against a gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender individual. It is a bill against Christian expression and Christian values. In Canada and Sweden the type of prosecution (persecution) this bill allows for has already taken place.

If you didn't call your representative before this vote, please call him/her now and tell him/her how disappointed you are in their vote.

The Senate is now getting ready to vote on a similar bill sponsored by Ted Kennedy. Please call your U.S. Senators and tell them to vote against the Hate Crimes bill.
